Good-quality exterior WPC, installed properly, typically lasts well over a decade, and many manufacturers rate their products for 10 to 20 years or more. How long yours lasts depends far more on the product grade and the installation than on the weather.
What WPC is made of
WPC (wood plastic composite) blends wood fibre with a polymer such as PVC or polyethylene, plus UV stabilisers and colour. The polymer protects the wood fibre from water and termites, which is why WPC does not rot like timber or swell like plywood.
What makes WPC fail early
- Interior-grade or unbranded profiles used outside. Without enough UV protection, colour fades quickly and the surface can turn chalky.
- No expansion gaps. WPC grows slightly in summer heat. Boards fixed tight can bow or crack.
- A weak or rusting frame. The cladding is only as good as what holds it. We use aluminium or treated frames.
- Water trapped behind the panels. A ventilated gap behind the cladding lets the wall breathe.
How to make WPC last longer
- Choose exterior-grade, UV-stabilised profiles, and ask for the manufacturer's warranty in writing.
- Insist on correct spacing, expansion gaps and stainless or coated fixings.
- Wash with plain water and a soft brush once or twice a year, especially after the dusty season.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents and pressure washers held close to the surface.
WPC vs real wood
Real timber can look beautiful, but outdoors it needs polishing or oiling every year or two and can attract termites. WPC gives a similar look with almost no upkeep. That is why we recommend it for balconies, terraces, boundary walls and louvers. Read our full comparison: ACP vs HPL vs WPC for Indian weather.
