There is no single "best" cladding. In North Indian weather, ACP wins on budget and clean modern lines, HPL wins on looks and toughness, and WPC wins on warmth for balconies and terraces. Most good facades combine two of them.
What Indian weather does to a facade
A facade in Delhi NCR faces four hard tests every year:
- Heat and UV: summer walls can get far hotter than the air. Cheap coatings fade and chalk, and some materials expand.
- Monsoon rain: water gets behind badly sealed joints and stains walls or rusts frames.
- Dust and smog: light, textured surfaces turn grey quickly. Smooth finishes wash clean.
- Termites and damp: real wood and plywood suffer. Composite materials do not.
ACP (Aluminium Composite Panel)
Two thin aluminium skins bonded to a core. The coating does the hard work: exterior-grade panels with a PVDF-type coating hold their colour in strong sun far better than budget polyester-coated sheets.
- Heat: very good with a quality coating. Panels are light, so they put little load on the building.
- Rain: excellent, as long as the joints are sealed or designed as open, drained joints.
- Dust: smooth faces wash clean with water.
- Watch out: choose a fire-retardant (FR) core for commercial and taller buildings. See our post Is ACP cladding fire-safe?
HPL (High Pressure Laminate)
Exterior HPL is a dense, solid sheet with a UV-protected face. It gives the most realistic wood and stone finishes of the three.
- Heat: excellent colour stability in exterior grades.
- Rain: excellent. It does not swell like plywood.
- Dust: easy to wipe. Scratch- and impact-resistant, good for ground-floor walls.
- Watch out: only exterior-grade HPL belongs outside, fixed on a ventilated frame with expansion gaps.
WPC (Wood Plastic Composite)
Wood fibre blended with polymer. It looks and feels like timber but does not rot or attract termites, and needs no polishing.
- Heat: good, but WPC expands slightly in heat, so spacing and the frame matter.
- Rain: very good. Ideal for balconies, terraces and boundary walls.
- Dust: fine with occasional washing. Colours can mellow a little in direct sun.
- Watch out: ask for exterior-grade, UV-stabilised profiles. More on this in How long does WPC cladding last?
Quick comparison
| ACP | HPL | WPC | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Sleek, metallic or printed | Realistic wood and stone | Natural timber feel |
| Summer sun | Very good (quality coating) | Excellent | Good |
| Monsoon | Excellent | Excellent | Very good |
| Upkeep | Occasional wash | Almost none | Occasional wash |
| Typical budget | Lower to mid | Mid to premium | Mid |
Our recommendation
For most homes in Noida, Delhi and Gurugram we suggest ACP or aluminium profiles for the main bands, with HPL or WPC as a warm feature around the entrance, balconies or staircase wall. Our Beta-1, Greater Noida project uses exactly this mix.
